Is this too much for this ring? Also, since I don’t know a lot about clarity, what do you think of the clarity rating. I know it’s not the best, but does the cut of the diamond (princess cut) hide or show the imperfections more or less?

*warning this is going to be long… sorry :o )

personal opinion, the price is good for what your getting. an average 1ct round or princess would go for about 3,000 anyway so add another 1.44ct in white gold for 4,500 sounds like a deal to me however on the clarity isn’t that great.

an I1 is in the lowest category on the clarity scale which means there will be visible inclusions (or some may say "flaws") inside or on the stone visible to the naked eye. the larger the stone the more visible the flaws. however, you can find an I1 that will be decent looking to the naked eye but you may have to shop around for that and compare I1 stones.

here’s the clarity chart link: http://www.nitacreations.com/images/diamond_clarity.jpg

an I color falls in the near colorless range second to last which means the stone will have a slight yellow tint in it.

the most important factor in a diamond is the diamonds cut (not shape) but the way it’s cut. the arrows signify the light, so you want a diamond that reflects the light well in the diamond otherwise your gonna have a stone that looks dark (deep cut) or light (shallow cut) none of those cuts i just mention is something you want from your diamond. because, a deep or shallow cut won’t reflect light well therefore giving you either a dull diamond or a dark diamond. the purpose of a diamond is for it’s sparkle and brilliance. without that it’s just a stone.

a well cut diamond will also mean deeper pockets for that matter because the better the cut the more value.

although it’s not my taste because it’s generic looking i’d like something that would say it’s more me. but you give her what you like and what she likes. that ring will also be a bit bulky also because the fact that it has a lot of metal around the channel set stones may take up a third of her ring finger. don’t pay attention to the people that are saying this ring is too expensive and that they would never spend that much in the first place. my ring was over 8,000 and worth every single penny and absolutely satisfied and happy with it.

the link of the ring i have below is from bluenile.com which is a very reputable diamond website. the diamond and the ring overall is definitely better then the one your asking about. although it is about 500 more you are getting:

18k white gold bridal set
2.08 ct t.w
0.56 ct t.w. engagement mounting
0.44 ct t.w. matching diamond band
Platinum prongs for center stone
Minimum Diamond color: I
Minimum Diamond Clarity: VS1
GIA Certification

option for thinner set but similar style and weight: http://www.bluenile.com/design.jsp?filter_id=1

i hope this helps.

I’m looking at this engagement ring set: http://www.diamondharmony.com/products/14k_White_Gold_Side_Stone_1_3_Carat_Diamond_Bridal_Set-5299-19.html

I have always told myself that I would never purchase an engagement ring from an online store, due to the risk of not knowing 100% the quality of the diamond (and because I want to be able to sit down and personally choose a diamond), and also because I want to be more traditional.

However, since this ring does not come with the center stone, I would obviously be buying the diamond separately if I purchased the setting online. I cannot find this setting anywhere else at all, and since the diamond accents wouldn’t even be chosen by me if I went to a jeweler, do you think it would still be appropriate to get the setting from the online store and then the diamond from a jeweler?

*Also, if I took the ring to a jeweler, would they be able to resize it for me, even though I hadn’t purchased it at their store? Thanks for your help.
Tiffany, are you referring to the cost of having it set by the jeweler? Or the cost of the center stone?
My question is more directed at the idea of whether or not it would still be risky to buy online, even though it would just be the setting, and whether or not it would still be considered appropriate or traditional to do so. Thanks again everyone!

I don’t know if you’re looking to surprise you fiancee, but it would be great if you could get an accurate measure of her ring size.

It would be great if you could have that company send you what they use as a ring sizer. I’m saying this because you never know if a Size 6 in their book is the same as the size 6 that your local jeweler uses.

I got both the ring and setting online at

www.dbof.com

Great, safe experience with them.

Good luck.

I propose with the actual diamond, and leave the other one off, or what’s the deal? I’m still sort of ignorant.

yes you give her the diamond when you propose and then when you get married you will put the band on her finger. congrats, and good luck :)

1) Does anyone have any engagement rings or wedding bands from Wal-mart?

2) What is their quality?

3) Are the diamonds real?

4) How is Wal-mart able to sell diamond rings for such low prices in comparison to jewelers?

Thanks! Just curious! I’m not engaged just curious.

Ask questions. They have most of the paperwork there. Most of the rings are less than a carat, so that’s one reason they are so much more affordable. My fiance bought mine at K-Mart and it appraises for more than he purchased it for. Just do a quick study on what to look for (color, cut, clarity, and carat) and be sure to find out those details on each and every ring. However, since you are talking about a fantasy engagement, it might not be too important.

Good thing that brilliant person came up with the concept of a right hand ring!

You can use them to make a diamond solitare go from a engagement ring to a bridal set

wrap or diamond enhancer…most places have diamond shows were you can design your own make it more personal.

Ok , I just bought a diamond engagement ring…bridal set. The diamond is Round, .55 carat and clarity is VS2 which is pretty good. Also it has an Excellent cut. The only thing that makes me a "little" uneasy is the color grade, it is an L. I don’t think you can tell, if you don’t know much about diamonds …but just want opinions. Should I return and get a different diamond? FYI – paid almost $1,400 for the diamond. Also, the diamond is GIA certified.
Also, it is indeed mounted on yellow good….that is why I also say you can’t really tell. I bought it from a store that sales numerous diamonds of high quality so I know they wouldn’t sell me a dud. It came along with papers for appraisal which have it it around $1,400.
Yellow Gold*

Supposedly, you can’t even tell when they are mounted. Take a trip back to the jewelry store and compare yours mounted to a more colorless one mounted before you do anything rash. You can’t have everything perfect unless you have unlimited funds. If you get better color, you sacrifice size, cut and clarity.
